21th Portuguese Box-Office Analysis

Number 21.
We continue to see which movies are the most popular over here. SOmetimes it is predictable but other times it completely gets us by surprise.
The mistakes continue to happen at the numbers. Doing the maths myself i spoted some errors in the numbers of spectators, hence the exchanged positions between some of them...

Still have some doubts about the numbers but will continue to post them as i can...
With a total of 221890 spectators for the top ten films of this week, we have a 5% rise in number since last week
Today we have three new movies at the top ten spot. And yes, one of them put Kong in it´s place. So Kong is no more King in the portuguse box-office. After three weeks it goes down.
And who is the new number one?
In a moment you will know.

We are considering the week between 5 to 11 of January 2006

The Champion:

We have a new number one. One of the New openers. It´s "Fun With Dick and Jane".
With 62480 spectators for the week, it did outnumber "King Kong" by a long stretch. Jim Carrey always opens well here in Portugal, no matter what. And specially with this kind of movie made specially for him.

The New Players:

At number 5 we have the big U.S.A hit, "The Transporter 2". The Luc Besson produced film didn´t do so great in here. The almost non-existing marketing and the usual explosions and kicks didn´t do the the trick they did in the U.S.A. Altough we have to admit Jason Statham is the new cool guy in action movies.

The Other Players:

"King Kong" at number 2 managed an ok week with 34518 spectators and only 35% drop.

The surprise of the week is, ofcourse the return of "Crime do Padre Amaro" to the top 3 films of the list. With an 84% rise in spectators after the announcment of it making the top spot ever,as portuguese movies are concerned, it got a new attention and the biggest rise ever for a movie in the box-office.

At number 4 "Tim Burton´s Corpse Bride" had an 26% drop and 18957 spectators total for the week.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Warrior, the Witch and the Wardrobe" had a big drop of 40% and are starting to loose "steam" and number of theathers to play on. It will disapear in the next two weeks of the list. At number 6 now.

At number 7 we have "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" with a 26% drop and 14419 spectators for the week. The 7th week is taking it´s tool.

At number 8 "The Man" with 29% drop and 12722 spectators this week.

As expected in a Christmas time comedy it is leaving the list very rapidly, now that the time is over. "The Family Stone" at number 9,with 29% drop and only 10779 spectators it will leave us next week. Rest in Peace.

At the last spot possible we have one of the most amazing horror movies of the last years, "The Descent". Personally it´s the best since "Aliens" but that´s just me, as the numbers say. Only 7203 spectators and a small drop of 25%. But with a small theather count it´s impossible to do better.

Next week we will have:

Since i will be doing the analysis tomorrow i will just say which will open.

- "Jarhead"
- "Dreamer"
- "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"
- "Caché-Hidden"

See ya tomorrow.
