31th Portuguese Box-Office Analysis

Another week, another analysis. It has been like that for a while and hope to make it like that for a little while longer (that didn´t sound very good!!!).

Ok, let´s move one.
We have a new number one. It has been like that for four consecutive weeks. New number ones every week.
Only two new openers at the top ten movies and they got the two top spots. Number one and two.
Will know which one they were in a few.

There was a 3% increase in number of spectators to a total of 165857. Another not impressive week. But easter vacation is coming and with it a high number of people in cinema. And "Ice Age 2" is almost here so that should heat up the box-office in Portugal.

Just continue reading.

We are considering the week between 16 and the 22th of March

The Champion:

And the new number one is? Yes, It´s "The Pink Panther", the remake (they say it isn´t but it is, without the quality), does it again. Inspector Closeau is back and as popular as ever. As stupid as ever, also. And it managed 40655 spectators for the week. A decent opening for a comedy. Altough it´s kind of a drama to see such good actors as Kevin Kline and Steve Martin doing this sad pictures. Not a comedy for me. A drama. They say the hamburger joke is good but that kinda few for a whole movie.

The New Players:

At number 2 we have a masterpiece, another one by master David Cronemberg, with "A History of Violence" which opened strong (considering the picture it is) with 21703 spectators. I Think it deserved a lot better in it´s debut but we are talking about a movie that isn´t for everyone. But it´s Cronember at it´s best so i definetely advise you to go see it if you have the chance. If not just buy the DVD, trust me. ALL HAIL CRONEMBERG

At the end of the list, at number 20, we find the other opener that got a spot. "Les Chevaliers du Ciel". A French "Top Gun" ripp off. And a very bad film indeed. Ahh, Luc Besson is involved. That explains a lot. Stop imitating the U.S and do your thing. That´s the only way to be suscesfull in this business. It got 3706 spectators. Very meek indeed.

The Other Players:

At number 3 is "Prime" which managed to beat last week´s number one and gain a spot to it. Now if only there weren´t new films every week and the number one spot was theirs to take. 20063 spectators said yes to the film. 19% less from last week.

"Underworld:Evolution" got the number 4 spot with a predictable 44% drop (always happens to big action movies) to 18808 spectators. Expect a smaller drop but still a big drop next week. Vampires just don´t tend to stick with people. Got it???? Stick hehehehe. Ye, i know it was a weak joke.

Luc Besson X 2 this week, means bad news. At number 5, we find "Bandidas" the new film with Hayek and Cruz. The latinas sex-bombs. And the film is all about that. Scripts are overrated right??? Oh, i forgot it got 14153 spectators and a 32% drop.

Holding the top 6 is "Brokeback Mountain", and this time by less than 200 spectators, gaining a total of 10709. In it´s 6th week it´s a very good run for the gay genre indeed. Almost 160000 went see it. That makes it the number movie of 2006. Not bad indeed.

"Capote" was near to gain the spot, but the 25% drop didn´t let it happen. It got 10583 spectators, all in part thankx to The Oscar winner Phillip. He is a huge part of this hit.

"Big Momma´s House" 2 at number 8 managed 10572 spectators to a small 13% drop. The smallest of the week. Won´t loose my time commenting on that. The film is not worth it.

At number 9 we find "Fragile" with a 15% drop and 10319 spectators. Small horror films tend to hold strong in it´s second week so no surprises here also.

Finally at number 10 "Syriana" with a 33% drop. The Oscars are fainding from the memory and in it´s 5th week this is a very faidable movies. It liked it but it didn´t show me anything i didn´t know already. SO i see information about the middle east everyday. Why go see it in Movies.

Just a note to the 13% drop from "Crash". The Oscar winner for best movies continues it´s reissue admirably, now in it´s 22nd Week. And it will last a little while longer just.

Next Week we will Have:

- "V for Vendetta" (The Matrix brothers are back. ANd this means the number one spot. Altough many people will get kinda disapointed. Not that much bang and more talk. And politics, arghhh)

- "Casanova" (Will make a few bucks, in this case Euros. Maybe a number 3 spot or 2 if it gets lucky.)

- "Nanny Mcphee" (hey it´s the kids film of the week and never underestimate the kid market in the Portuguese Box-Office. Few theathers but good numbers. Number 4 maybe).

See ya next week.

Good Night and Good Films.
