44th Portuguese Box-Office Analysis

Number 44 of the movie news that shake Portugal. Would like to extend my gratitude who every week pass by my humble site and check out this very analysis.
They say it´s the only one they find in the web but i´m glad to know they can find about it here.
The Portuguese Box-Office, which continue to be dominated by a single movie.
Yes, it´s the same from last week and the new record holder of most weeks at the top with 5. It´s "The Da Vinci Code". Beeing famous really helps out.

This week we had 205582 spectators on the top ten movies. That means a 11% increase after 4 weeks going down. And hard, thankx to the world Cup. Still some more weeks of footbal so hard time for cinema in here.

This concerns the week between 15 to 21 of June

The Champion:

It´s still the same "The Da Vinci Code", does it again for the fifth straight week (and final because next week there will be a new number one. An amazing second best average per theather of 792 and 11% drop to an ok 62562 spectators. Indeed a great perfomance that will pass the 700.000 spectators for sure. It will stay with us some more weeks but not in number 1.

The New Players:

The first new player is found at number 3. It´s "Take the Lead" the Banderas dance show. Because the movie is having bad reviews and the only positive point found on the movie was the very own Antonio Banderas, with an excellent. So if you are a fan don´t hesitate. If you are a fan of cinema then forget it. It doesn´t live in this movie.

"RV" the latest Robin Williams, trying to put him back at the top of the comedy again, is not the film he deserved for a great comeback. Expect the gross out comedy and not the sensitive one. As a once upon a time big fan it´s hard to see him do this kind of films. Altough as i fan i will see it sooner or later. It´s one of those things we can´t explain.

At number 3 with the best average per theather of the week we find "The Squid and the Whale". With an estimate 3235 spectators in just 3 theatherwe find this was a very big opening for a small film. The great reviews it had on all media really helped it´s case also. And the fact it´s one of the best of the year i´ve seen also did it´s part.

And the other new player is "Winter´s Passing" that passed completely unoticed on the media and managed 1210 spectators (Avg 403). It was an expected result. And next week it will disapear in the hole it appeared on.

The Other Players:

This week worst film, but with an ok week still, was "The Omen". The biggest drop of the week of 23% to 21270 spectators is not that bad. But all the others did better so there must be something wrong. And since 6/6/06 already passed and no sign of the anti-christ isn´t exactly helping the results.

And this week´s winner of Oustanding Portuguese Box-Office Perfomance goes to "Asterix el les Vikings" with a 32% rise in number of spectators to 19411. A very good sign since it´s first week was a disaster considering the investment made in it. COngrats. Gosciny et Uderzo. The memory still lives.

See ya Next Week.

Good Night and Good Films.
